FACTS.
Around 13 Million tourists are visiting Berlin every year.
With it’s 12 districts it is quite understandable, that many people do not know which part is best to stay in or even where to start.
Let me help.
- Berlin has roughly 7000 restaurants, cafes and bar. No reason to freak out. Scroll down. Thank me later.
- Berlin had 24 castles, 22 of which are still intact. Castles are always worth a visit. Start with Schloss Charlottenburg (visit in summer or Christmas season), Schloss Pfaueninsel (summer), Zitadelle Spandau (open air concerts in summer time) or the Jagdschloss Grunewald (bring a dog).
- Berlin has the world’s largest Turkish population outside of Turkey.
- Around 50.000 people dance every weekend. Ever seen village size party folks? Come to Berlin.
- Berlin has more bridges than Venice. Sorry, but the truth. 391 bridges in watery Venice and 969 to 2100 bridges in Berlin, depending on the definition, water bridge, road bridge, etc.
- Today, our famous “Ampelmann” comes in many shapes.
- The name “Berlin” was the first time recorded in 1244, 7 years after Kölln (today: Köln[Cologne]).
- Berlin also is ca. 9 times the size of Paris, but it has only 1/5 of Paris’ density.
- 3 Opera Houses are located in Berlin. More than 4,400 opera attendees will fit in those. This is pretty unique. Only a few cities come close to that number, like Vienna.
- Berlins public transportation system travels more than 8 times around the Earth. With 10 subway lines (length ca 152 km) and 22 tram lines (length ca. 193 km), Berlin has a bigger transportation system than Paris (ca. 105 km) or London (28 km).
- Berlin is considered as Germany’s greenest city.
- Fee for illegal parking under one hour is only 15 €. Enough time for quickly shopping at weekly markets.
